Bengaluru: A 24-year-old and a 40-year-old were buried alive when a heap of mud caved in while they were digging a pit to collect silt from the bed of Thammenahalli lake in the outskirts of Ramanagar on Friday night.

The deceased — Asif (24) and his friend Azeez Khan (40) — were residents of Kudur and worked as cooks.

According to the police, the duo had gone to Thammenahalli lake to collect sand from the lake bed, which they would filter and sell to make extra money.

When they failed to return home, the family members went in search of them and found their bodies under a heap of sand. The Kudur police have taken up a case.
