Claiming credit for the Congress government’s decision to scrap the steel flyover project, the BJP dubbed the move “a desperate attempt to avoid probe” by a central investigative agency.
Addressing the media, BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa, who had accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of allegedly receiving kickbacks for approving the project, said the protest would continue till a CBI probe is ordered into the “multi-crore deal”.
“Their decision to scrap the project is an attempt to hush up the illegal deal in the controversial project, opposed by citizens groups and political parties,” he said, adding that the party will raise this issue in the coming session as well.
When asked if BJP would demand Mr. Siddaramaiah’s resignation, Mr. Yeddyurappa said the Chief Minister had to “step down on his own”, but he would not insist on this. The government had to scrap the project because of the growing opposition and Minister for Bengaluru Development and Town Planning K.J. George himself admitted that he was frustrated by the allegations levelled, he opined.
Linking the decision of the government to release of excerpts of the diary allegedly belonging to Congress MLC K. Govindaraj, Mr. Yeddyurappa said the fight against the government would continue till the Congress owns the contents of the diary.
