Shift to Ramanagaram now: Govt. to RGUHS

February 10, 2017 12:39 am | Updated 12:39 am IST - BENGALURU:

In what has come as a jolt to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), the State government on Wednesday issued an order asking the varsity to immediately shift to Ramanagaram. There is currently no campus in Ramanagaram and even the basic preparations have not been made, said RGUHS officials.

The varsity, during a syndicate meeting last month, had decided to first shift the Engineering Department, to be housed temporarily in the Ramanagaram Deputy Commissioner’s office.

However, the government order states that the entire varsity should move immediately and the expenditure be borne by the university.

The varsity is in a fix as the Ayurveda exams begin later this month, followed by the nursing exams in March.

K.S. Ravindranath, Vice-Chancellor, said that that it would not be possible to shift immediately and added that the process would take place in phases. “We have different departments and there is no infrastructure. Each individual department will need infrastructure and logistics sorted before they begin functioning,” he said.

He also pointed out that 77 acres out of the 216 acres allotted to the university was still under litigation, making it difficult for them to carry out construction work.

The issue of shifting the campus to Archakarahalli in Ramanagaram has been a long pending plan since 2007 and sources pointed out that there has been political pressure to expedite this process.
