Retired professor knocked down by bus

Bengaluru: A 78-year-old retired professor of Bangalore University died after being knocked down by a BMTC bus at the RPC Layout bus stand on Sunday evening.

Manjunath T.R. lived in Vijaynagar. He was in RPC Layout for some personal work after which he was walking to the bus stand to board a bus to return home. Around 5.15 p.m., he was knocked down by a BMTC bus that was heading inside the bus stand.

Passers-by informed the police who shifted him to a private hospital in their Hoysala vehicle, but the doctors were unable to save him.

The police have seized the bus and arrested the driver, who shares the same name as the deceased, Manjunath. The Vijayanagar traffic police have registered a case.

After retiring from the university, Manjunath T.R. was working as an accountant for a local temple.
