BENGALURU: The police have sent CDs, a mobile phone, a pen drive and some documents seized from Manjunath V., the supervisor of the playschool, who is accused of sexually assaulting seven children, to a forensic science lab.
Police sources said the items were recovered after a search of Manjunath’s house, which is located in the school campus.
In another development, the police booked three members of the school management under the POCSO Act based on a complaint by some parents of negligence on their part.
Out of the total seven FIRs registered, one complaint has been filed by the parent of a male student. The police recorded the statements of the children and are in the process of conducting medical examinations.
Parents allege a delay as the POCSO Act states that the medical examination should be carried out 24 hours before the complaint is received.
One parent described the reaction of children when a team of police officers came to record the statement of students. “Our child was shocked to see one of the police officers, who was recording the video, in uniform. The children were traumatised and scared of the uniform,” the parent said.
Community policing
BENGALURU: Following several cases of sexual assault, police of the Whitefield division have decided to involve active residents, who are part of their community policing campaign, to monitor if playschools and schools follow the necessary regulations and guidelines. Deputy Commissioner of Police M. Narayana said that the decision was taken after a meeting with residents on Thursday.
The police have written to the Commissioner for Public Instruction to investigate the latest case of sexual assault in a playschool and send a committee to inspect the school and take stock of child safety measures.
