Even as majority of the Ola and Uber cabs remained off the road on Sunday, a few drivers started a novel protest. Holding placards on M.G. Road, they petitioned passers-by to donate ₹1 symbolically towards their cause.

Over 10 drivers held placards that had slogans such as ‘Please save driver’s families’ and ‘Rescue us from Ola and Uber’. One of the drivers held a piggy bank and requested people to donate money.

“The government is not coming forward to help us. Hence we are asking the public to understand our problems,” said a driver on condition of anonymity.

A majority of the one lakh cars attached to Ola and Uber have remained off the road since February 22. Protesters claim that there has been no response from the taxi aggregator companies till now.

“We have approached the police seeking permission to hold a hunger protest, however we haven’t got it,” said Tanveer Pasha, a coordinator for Ola-TaxiForSure-Uber Drivers’ and Owners’ Union.
