A part of the scaffolding and roof of one portion of Mantri mall collapsed on Monday afternoon injuring two house-keeping staff working on the ground. The incident triggered chaos inside the facility as thousands of mall goers, staff at the various shops and the theatre ran to their safety. Ongoing film shows were also cancelled mid-way and other shows called off.

Two housekeeping staff, one of them identified as Lakshmamma, 45, were rushed to KC General Hospital, where they are being treated, the police said. Fortunately they escaped with minor injuries, the police added.

It was the roof-scaffolding of a corridor on the third floor, an outgrowth on the backside of the mall, that collapsed which damaged the corridor on third and second floor too.

BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad, who visited the mall on Monday evening, said that the civic body has immediately withdrawn the Occupancy Certificate for the mall temporarily, till all renovation is completed and BBMP does a through investigation on the safety of the building. “Till then the mall will be closed,” he said.
