The sixth, and last, person accused of being involved in the molestation of a woman at Kammanahalli was arrested in the city on Monday.
According to the police, George alias Pappi (21), an electrician, was arrested at Anekal as he attempted to make his way back to the city.
He is accused of aiding the two main accused, who rode up to the woman walking in the alley in the early hours of January 1, and sexually harassed her. George was among the four men who blocked the entry way into the alley, as their two friends - who had been stalking the woman - rode into the alley to molest the victim.
The entire incident was caught on camera, and by January 3, the footage had caused a national outrage. While five of the accused were arrested by January 7, George had eluded Banaswadi police. “He had gone to Tamil Nadu, and we got information that he was trying to get back to the city on Monday as he had run out of money. He was arrested form the border check-post at Anekal,” said a senior police official.
With the arrest, all six of those named in the FIR have been arrested, said the police.
Judicial custody for KG Halli accused
Meanwhile, the K.G. Halli police have secured six-day police custody of Irshad Khan, who is accused of staging sexual harassment of his sister-in-law in a complicated bid for marriage by “defaming” her. He was produced in court on Monday.
The police said questioning of the accused from Tuesday will lead to determining the exact nature of involvement of the ‘victim’ following which they can contemplate criminal action against her for perjury (giving false statement or complaint to the police).
