The HAL police detained a 17-year-old boy on the charge of stealing a businessman’s mobile phone and sending objectionable photos from that device to the latter’s wife.

The businessman did not file a police complaint when his phone was stolen, but he did when his wife began getting unsolicited images on WhatsApp.

Based on a complaint, the HAL police tracked down the accused through his call record details and mobile tower location from his house at Gunjur and recovered four motorcycles and 17 mobile phones which he had stolen.

The accused would allegedly draw lewd pictures on the wall of the houses he would steal from, and often leave a warning on the wall, reminding the owners to lock their doors. He would also write abuses on the wall before fleeing with the valuables, said the police.

The accused would come to the city in a bus, move around the area to identify paying guest accommodations and houses that were left unattended. HAL station police inspector Sadiq Pasha said the police have let him off with a warning as he was a juvenile.
