A jilted 26-year-old nurse attacked her boyfriend with acid and slashed his face with a blade in Vijayanagar on Monday night.

The accused, Lydia, works in a private hospital and is a resident of Srirampura. She was in a relationship with Jayakumar, a 30-year-old cloth merchant.

Inquiries revealed that the duo was in relationship for the past four years and recently Jayakumar broke up with her after she started pestering him for marriage.

Jayakumar had even started looking for a prospective bride. Lydia, who came to know about this, confronted Jayakumar at Pipeline Road on Monday night while he was returning home and threw a bottle of chemical on his face. The accused was so violent that she even slashed Jayakumar's face with a shaving blade and escaped.

Jayakumar raised alarm and passers-by rushed him to K.C. General hospital.

Based on the complaint from the hospital authorities, the Vijaynagar police rushed to the spot and on Tuesday arrested Lydia and booked her under section 326 (a) (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid) and attempt to murder and remanded her to judicial custody.

The police are trying to ascertain the nature of chemical used and the source from where she had procured it.
