Bengaluru: Unexpected fog in the city threw a spanner at flight operations at the Kempegowda International Airport on Wednesday morning.

According to Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), around 22 departures and 21 arrivals were delayed between 6.47 a.m. and 8.05 p.m.

As many as 10 flights had to be diverted to other airports during this period as well.

The cascading effect of the delays resulted in chaos at the airport as runway operations were already restricted on account of Aero India 2017.

Owing to the event, the airport remained closed between 10 a.m and noon, and then from 2 p.m till 5 p.m, and this will continue till 18 February.

Passengers on several flights, caught in the two-hour window, were stranded at the airport as their flights were able to take off only after 5 p.m. Those who chose to board their planes, were reportedly left to wait without refreshments.

From Sunday onwards till April 3 , the runway will remain closed between 10.30 a.m and 5 p.m. for upgrading works.
