974 booked for drunken driving

As many as 974 people, including two women, were booked for drunken driving by the city traffic police during a special drive conducted across the city on Saturday night.

The special drive was carried out at 126 junctions across the city from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday.

The driving licences and vehicles of people who were booked for drunken driving were seized. They were issued notices to pay fine at the jurisdictional courts to get their vehicles released.

The driving licences of the offenders have been sent to the Transport Department with a recommendation to suspend them, said Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B. Dayanand.
