799 vacancies in BWSSB: CM

June 25, 2014 12:27 am | Updated 12:27 am IST - BANGALORE:

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday told the Legislative Assembly that there are 799 vacancies in the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), which has a total of 3,500 sanctioned posts.

Replying to BJP member S. Suresh Kumar during Question Hour, he said measures would be taken to fill up 619 posts through direct recruitment. Filling up of the remaining posts has been delayed as steps were being taken to provide reservation to people in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, he added.

Pointing out that Hyderabad Water Supply Board had 6,000 posts though it had a jurisdiction of only 688 square km as against over 800 square km for the BWSSB, Mr. Suresh Kumar suggested increasing the staff strength of the BWSSB.

The chief minister said he would ask the officials concerned to study the Hyderabad water supply model to examine if it could be emulated in Bangalore.
