Police resorted to lathi-charge and detained more than 60 members of the Students’ Federation on India (SFI) on Friday when they were taking out a rally to the Vidhana Soudha. The protesters were demanding appointment of lecturers and increase in budget allocation for the education sector, among other things.

As many as 1,000 SFI members participated in the rally from the city railway station to the Freedom Park. But some of them entered Seshadri Road disrupting traffic.

Three protesters — Jyothi and Pooja from Hassan, and Shankar from Malur — were injured in the head when police used force to clear them from the road where there was traffic jam because of the rally.
