Around 50 roads in the city will be developed on the lines of St. Mark’s Road and Vittal Mallya Hospital Road here, announced Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Speaking after inaugurating the two roads that have been developed under Tender SURE (Specifications for Urban Road Execution) here on Saturday, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that by January 2016, the work on other five roads taken up under the first phase of the project would be completed. A total of 12 roads are being developed under two phases of the project.
Claiming that the inaugurations of many projects and announcements of new works were not because the polls to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) were round the corner, he said the government was committed to improving basic infrastructure, including drinking water for all, good roads and better connectivity in the city.
About the wide footpaths on roads developed under Tender SURE, he said that this was done keeping in mind pedestrian safety. Mr. Siddaramaiah had, during a recent inspection, directed BBMP officials to ensure that the footpath is not as wide in the other roads to be developed in future.
City in-charge Minister R. Ramalinga Reddy said that the government had proposed to construct four elevated corridors at a cost of Rs. 18,000 crore. BBMP officials have been instructed to prepare a detailed project report for the same.
Local MLA N.A. Haris and Swathi Ramanathan from Janagraha spoke.
