50 films on water to be screened at travelling film festival

A group of filmmakers under the banner of the Bangalore Film Society have decided to provide a global perspective to the issue of water scarcity and will host the 9th edition of ‘Voices from the Waters’, International travelling film festival.

The festival will be hosted at the National Gallery for Modern Art between September 11 and 14. As many as 50 films from across 38 countries will be screened during the event. Festival director, Georgekutty A.L., said various issues like water harvesting, floods, droughts, global warming, climate change, river pollution, impact of deforestation on water bodies besides water conflicts are to be highlighted. He said that the film festival, which would be a community outreach event, would help address one of the most important needs for people – potable water for household needs, agriculture and industry. Mahmoud Reza Sani, a filmmaker and writerfrom Iran will be the chief guest and also conduct a three-day workshop for students with financial constraints.

A press release stated that besides screening films, a painting and photo exhibition around the theme of water would also be conducted at the venue.

Discussions and interactions with directors, scholars, and grassroots level water activists will also be held at the venue.
