Five persons — an autorickshaw driver, its passengers and two bikers — were injured and four vehicles were damaged after being hit by a car. Witnesses said that the driver lost control at Anand Bhavan signal in Kathriguppe at 5.30 p.m. on Sunday.
Police said that there were two persons in the car and the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
The victims were waiting at the Anand Bhavan signal when the car rammed into them. Such was the impact that the auto turned turtle and the passengers were flung out of the vehicle, witnesses said.
The auto driver and the bikers suffered serious injuries while the passengers escaped relatively unharmed.
Police identified the driver as Tejas, a businessman from Byatarayanapura. He fled from the spot leaving his friend Pramod to face an angry mob. The police said that Pramod and his friend were drunk and were driving their car in a rash and negligent manner.
The auto driver is being treated for head wounds. The two bikers sustained fractures. The others were admitted to a private hospital and are said to be out of danger.
