A four-year-old boy died after being hit by an SUV in front of his house in Cauvery Layout, Moodalapalya Road on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased, Tarun Kumar, was playing with his elder brother near their house when the accident occurred around 12.30 p.m. Tarun is the son of Mahantesh, who is from Raichur and drives a cab in Bengaluru.

The SUV driver, Venkatesh Kumar, is a realtor and a resident of Saraswathi Nagar. He told the police that the child came in front of his vehicle suddenly, leaving him little time to stop.

The boy suffered a head injury and multiple internal injuries. Venkatesh Kumar (38) took the boy to a nearby private hospital in his car. The boy succumbed to his injuries an hour later.

A senior traffic officer said that the accident took place in a narrow bylane. Police booked Venkatesh under Section 304A of Indian Penal Code for causing death due to negligence and arrested him.
