29-km tunnel proposed in Shiradi Ghat

For seamless travel through Shiradi Ghat, between Bengaluru and coastal Karnataka, the State government proposes to construct a 29-km tunnel route on this section.

The estimated cost of the tunnel project is Rs. 10,000 crore. The project would be executed with financial assistance from the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa told presspersons here on Thursday.

Mr. Mahadevappa, who had discussed the project with Union Surface Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Tuesday, said “Mr. Gadkari has assured all support to execute the project”. The department will prepare a Detailed Project Report on the proposed tunnel route project and seek funding from JICA, he said.

The department also plans to concretise the entire ghat stretch.
