It is not Bangalore Club alone. Excise license violations at 26 clubs across the city have now come under the scanner and notices have been served for violations.
Bengaluru Urban District’s Deputy Commissioner V. Shankar confirmed that the Excise Department conducted surprise raids and checks at these clubs following a Joint Legislative Committee report on irregularities at clubs in the city. He said show cause notices were issued to 26 clubs after officials found violations of licence norms. The club managements have been asked to reply within 15 days. Mr Shankar said suitable action would be initiated based on the replies.
The district administration recently suspended the excise licence of Bangalore Club for a month after the club failed to give a satisfactory explanation within the stipulated time.
Meanwhile, Home Minister K.J. George on Thursday said that the State government had nothing to do with the controversy surrounding Bangalore Club and suspension of its licence by the Excise authorities.
He told The Hindu that the government will not interfere in matters related to Bangalore Club, which has been at the centre of a controversy in the last few days.
