25 more FIR registration kiosks in three months

January 04, 2015 03:02 pm | Updated 03:02 pm IST - Bengaluru:

The city will get 25 more FIR registration kiosks in three months, according to City Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi.

While police are legally bound to register FIRs and action will be taken against officials not doing so, Police Department is providing an alternative platform to register a complaint. Police claim that FIR registration kiosk, a novel initiative of the city police, has been popular and effective. First such kiosk was installed in Mantri Mall, Malleswaram on November 14, 2014.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B. Dayananda, in-charge of the FIR kiosk, said that on an average two cases are registered through the kiosk every day, and a total of 85 cases have been registered till date.

Duty-bound

No police official can decline to take any complaint or register an FIR. Even if the incident does not come under the jurisdiction of the police station, police are obliged to register a complaint and later transfer the case to the jurisdictional police station. Pulikeshi Nagar Inspector Mohammed Rafiq was arrested for delay in registering an FIR in a rape case in July 2014.
