As many as 21 huts were gutted in a fire near Outer Ring Road near the Hebbal flyover here on Monday afternoon.

There were no human casualties.

The fire broke out at 2 p.m. in one of the huts belonging to a construction labourer. As it spread, residents rushed out of their homes with their valuables, said an eyewitness who alerted the Fire and Emergency Services.

The latter, who rushed from the Hebbal Fire Station, reached the spot by 2.10 p.m. and doused the fire.

“The fire started from one of the huts and spread quickly. The area had 54 huts and 21 huts were destroyed. We prevented the fire from spreading to other huts,” K. Narayana Swamy, Divisional Fire Officer (Hebbal Division), told The Hindu. He added that the cause is yet to be ascertained.

Traffic on Outer Ring Road was disrupted for a while. The Hebbal police are investigating.
