21 cities facing water crisis

March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - Bengaluru:

With the onset of summer, 21 of the 213 local bodies in the State are facing water scarcity. Minister for Urban Development Vinaykumar Sorake on Monday said the government had already identified some such areas, including Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Pavagada and Tumakuru. The government was trying to exploit water sources in tanks and lakes to meet the demand. That apart, there would also be a crackdown on water theft and pilferage. “Local bodies collect tax for water supply. However, some of them were not collecting it properly while some others were not depositing part of it with KUWSB,” he said.
