Eighteen persons, six of them women, were injured in an accident involving two private buses and a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus on Bangalore-Mysore State Highway near Kengal Gate in Ramanagaram on Friday.

The accident disrupted traffic on the highway for some time after the accident.

The Ramanagaram district police said injured were admitted to various hospitals in Ramanagaram. They are stated to be out of danger.

All the three buses were bound for Bangalore when one of the private buses, in an attempt to overtake the other two, hit the KSRTC bus. Consequently, the other private bus, which was following the two vehicles, hit the first private bus, police sources said.

The police said the two private buses were racing each other.

The injured were all travelling in the private buses, the sources added. However, the police are yet to register a case.
