A 16-year-old boy who went for a swim along with his friends drowned in a swimming pool in Nelamangala on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Naveen Kumar, son of a school teacher. According to the police, the deceased had been to newly built swimming pool after school with his friends.

He ventured into the deep side of the pool and drowned. By the time others rushed to his help, pulled him out and shifted him to a nearby hospital, Naveen had died. The Nelamangala police have taken up a negligence case against the swimming pool management.

Homemaker ends life

A 28-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself over a trivial row in Banashankari on Saturday.

According to the police, the deceased, Smitha, was married to Vishwanath, working with the ISRO. The couple had a two-year-old daughter.

According to the police, Smitha was denied permission to go to her parents’ house for Varamahalakshmi festival. Heated arguments ensued following which Smitha went into a room with her child and locked from inside, while the rest of the family members were watching TV.

The incident came to light when they noticed the child crying incessantly. The family members broke open the door and found Smitha hanging from the ceiling.

The Banasankari police said there was no suicide note.

Vishwanath told the police that Smitha had quarrelled with him on Friday about going to her native place for Varamahalakshmi festival, but he asked her to go for Gowri-Ganesha festival. However, Smitha’s parents have filed a case of dowry harassment against Vishwanath, the police said.
