A day after the Karnataka State PU Lecturers’ Association and the Karnataka State PU Principals’ Association called off their strike, nearly 15,000 evaluators reported on duty on Wednesday. While at some centres preparatory work has commenced, in a majority of them evaluation of II PU answer scripts is already under way.

The evaluation process is likely to speed up in the next few days. Sources in the department said each evaluator will be given 24 answer scripts per day, and the evaluated paper will be crosschecked thoroughly to avoid any error.

DIET participation

Despite government and aided lecturers reporting to duty, many of the District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET) lectures, who have no experience in teaching II PU students were asked to report for evaluation in some of the centres.

“I haven’t even seen a II PU textbook, but I received a message late on Wednesday evening asking to report for evaluation from Thursday at a centre in south Bengaluru. They say that they will give us key answers and we will be able to evaluate answer scripts easily,” she said.

Taking strong objection to this, another lecturer who got a similar order said, “We were ready to work when the lecturers were on strike; we took part in coding and decoding of answer scripts. But why is there a need to utilise our services when government lecturers and principals are back to work. We do not want to commit any blunders in the evaluation process.”

Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar said that the results would be announced before May 18. The government had announced the II PU results last year on May 18. He also said that private PU lecturers, who had reported for duty, would continue to work to expedite the process.
