A 14-year-old girl committed suicide after her parents advised her to stay away from her boyfriend. The incident took place in Devasandra in K.R. Puram police station limits on Friday.

The deceased, Pavithra, was studying in class 9, in a private school in Devasandra. She lived with her father, Anandan, a cab driver, and her mother, Narasamma, housekeeping staff in a private firm, in the same area. According to the police, the girl committed suicide after her parents left for work.

A neighbour found the girl’s body hanging from the ceiling around noon. He alerted Anandan, who rushed home, before informing the police.

“The girl left a note stating that she was in love with Ramesh, a cab driver, and wanted to marry him, but her parents opposed her desire to do so. The parents, however, have accused Ramesh of not letting her attend classes. They had even warned the two to not meet each other. Ramesh allegedly continued to meet Pavithra. When the parents objected to this, Pavithra got upset and committed suicide,” a police officer said.

Pavithra’s father has filed a complaint with the K.R. Puram police alleging that Ramesh was the reason behind his daughter’s suicide. The police are investigating the case.
