A 13-year-old boy was killed on the spot when a BMTC bus knocked him down while he was crossing the road near Gopalan Mall on Mysore Road on Friday morning.

The dead boy was identified as Hussain, a resident of Valmikinagar near Chamarajpet. Passersby rushed the boy to hospital where he was declared brought dead. The driver of the bus, which knocked down Hussain killing him instantly, tried to speed away but passersby as well as the bus passengers stopped him from proceeding further until the police reached the spot and arrested him, and seized the bus.

Hussain was studying in a Madrasa in the city and was staying at a hostel. But as he had a holiday he was visiting his mother, Habeeda, at home.

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) traffic officials say that while irresponsible bus drivers are to be blamed, there are also many cases where the fault lies with pedestrians or commuters who do not adhere to traffic rules.
