A 12-year-old boy was electrocuted on coming in contact with a live electric line in Hosapalya, HSR Layout on Sunday evening.

Puneeth Kumar was playing cricket when he came in contact with the wire while trying to fetch the ball that had fallen on a heap of mud near an electric pole.

His friends and others rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The victim was a class six student of the government school in Bandepalya. He lived with his father Ramesh, a labourer, and mother, a homemaker.

The HSR Layout police said that there was a burn-like injury on his head indicating that he was electrocuted. Police have registered a case of negligence against the local Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) officials.

However, the primary report submitted by Bescom claims that the boy had “severe head injury after hitting his head against a stone” and there were no “entry or exit wounds” on him.

Not questioned

While a case has been booked against Bescom officials, the developer of the layout where the accident occurred was not even questioned.

Police said that the developer had stocked mud next to the electric pole.
