At least 12 persons had a providential escape when a building caved in near Shankar Math in Basaveshwarnagar on Thursday morning.

The two-storey was prevented from crashing completely as it rested on the adjoining building.

Around 6.15 a.m., the residents felt the building shake and in seconds, it caved in. However, with the building resting on the adjoining one, the residents of both buildings managed to rush out. Eight-year-old boy Mayur and his mother sustained minor injuries. The Fire and Emergency Department officials who rushed to the spot said they were yet to ascertain the reason behind the incident. They suspect that the foundation of the building was weak.

The officials said the building will be demolished. However, they said demolishing one building could lead to the collapse of the other. The building owner has been identified as Surendra Kumar. However, no case has been registered by the police so far
