A 10-year-old girl died on Wednesday after allegedly being beaten by her step-father for spilling coconut oil in their home at Nandagokula Layout in Thanisandra.

Hennur police said that the accused, Aslam Pasha (42), is an autorickshaw driver. He was arrested and booked for murder based on a complaint filed by the girl’s mother Usna Sultana. According to the police, the child, Noorain Taj, is the daughter of Sultana from her first marriage.

On Wednesday, Noorain was the only one at home. When Aslam came home from work in the afternoon, he saw her applying coconut oil to her hair. When she accidentally spilled oil on the floor, Aslam was upset over the wastage. He allegedly punched the child in the stomach and abdomen very hard, police said.

When Sultana returned home from work around 6.30 p.m., Noorain complained of severe stomach ache. Along with her brothers, she rushed the child to Dr. Ambedkar Hospital. Noorain died of her injuries.

In her complaint, Sultana alleged that Aslam had issues with Noorain since she was the daughter of her first husband.
