‘No trade licence renewal if zonal regulations violated’

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued a notice stating that renewal of trade licences will not be renewed for establishments which do not meet zonal regulations.

A recent public notification issued in December said that commercial establishments in residential areas would be shut down and the BBMP will not renew their licences.

BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad said that this would help correct anomalies in issue of licences. "If licences have been given by mistake or with full knowledge to establishments which violate regulations, it can be corrected, and the officer responsible will be taken to task," he said. Although a committee was being constituted to look into the commercialisation of residential areas, until it gave its recommendations, the High Court's directives are binding, he added.
