ZPTCs, MPPs welcome move on loan eligibility cards

February 05, 2011 04:15 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 05:33 am IST - VIZIANAGARAM:

The government's proposal to issue loan and allied benefits eligibility cards to tenant farmers has received approval from the ZPTC members and mandal parishad presidents at a specially convened general body meeting of the Zilla Parishad on Friday. B. Chandrasekhar, chairperson, who chaired the meeting, sought recommendations from the members present.

Joint Collector H. Arun Kumar said a draft had already approved after holding meetings at mandal and district-levels and the approval of the members present here would be sent to the government to introduce the Bill in the impending Assembly session. He said the cards, to be issued to tenant ryots, without affecting rights of land owners, would curtail their dependency on micro finance institutions and other money lenders and also prevent them from taking extreme step like suicides.

The cards would enable them to access credit and other benefits from banks and other government agencies, he said.

The Joint Collector said the experiment of forming joint liability groups was a failure because not even five per cent of peasants were ready to form groups.
