May 14, 2010 05:24 pm | Updated 05:24 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Members, officers and staff of Visakhapatnam Zilla Praja Parishad at a meeting held at the ZPP Meeting Hall here on Thursday, condoled the death of its Vice-Chairman U. Somalingam.

He was killed at the hands of Maoists at his native village Choudupalli on Monday night.

Zilla Praja Parishad Chairman G. Ramamurthy Naidu said the Maoists killed Somalingam in spite of him declaring many times that he was against bauxite mining and they should explain their action to the people.

Somalingam never had differences with anyone during his 30 years of political life and was a nice person but he met with such a death, Mr. Ramamurthy Naidu said.

Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Praja Parishad P.A. Sobha, Revenue Divisional Officer D. Venkata Reddy, Chairman of District Grandhalaya Samstha Thota Nagesh, and others participated in the meeting.
