Several programmes planned and implemented by former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy led to progress of various sections of society, Tribal Welfare Minister P. Balaraju has said.
Addressing a meeting after unveiling a 15-foot bronze statue on the Beach Road on the first death anniversary of Rajasekhara Reddy, he said the programmes were appreciated nationally and internationally and several State governments adopted them. The credit for providing irrigation facility to lakhs of acres went to Rajasekhara Reddy.
Recalling the tragic death of the former Chief Minister, Mr. Balaraju said it was his love of traibals and desire to see them lead a dignified life that led to distribution of 1.4 lakh acres of land to them. The Minister gave away bank linkage of Rs.6.55 crores to self-help groups.

Mayor P. Janardhana Rao, who presided, lauded the importance given by Rajasekhara Reddy to irrigation, pro-poor programmes and information technology.
Mr. Balaraju inaugurated a photo exhibition on the former Chief Minister's visit to the district and a blood donation camp organised by the Red Cross and the District Medical and Health Department. MLA Tyanala Vijay Kumar donated blood at the camp.

MLA Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao unveiled a statue of YSR in Ward 29. Saris to 600 persons and rice to 500 persons were distributed under the supervision of corporator Garikana Gowri.
The Ambedkar Rellikula Sankshema Sangham observed the death anniversary at Upper Relli Street.
