Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy asserted on Monday that he would organise a backward classes garjana and pass a BC declaration soon.

Addressing a public meeting at Khanagudur in Mydukur constituency of Kadapa district during his Praja Sankalpa Yatra, Mr. Reddy said he would announce a BC committee with his party members and they would tour all the constituencies and elicit the people’s suggestions and submit a report to him. Basing on the report, he would organise a BC garjana to highlight the plight of BCs, who were struck by poverty.

Promising disbursal of pensions to SC, ST, BCs and minorities who attained 45 years of age, Mr. Reddy said his goal was to see smiles on the faces of every poor person in the State. His father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had reimbursed the total fee during his rule, but the present government was only disbursing a few thousands to students of the downtrodden sections that too after a year or two out of a whopping fee of lakhs of rupees. As a result, the downtrodden sections had to sell their properties to educate their children, he remarked.

Pocket money

Promising total fee reimbursement and disbursal of pocket money of ₹20,000 a year to all the students, the YSR Congress president promised to deposit ₹15,000 in the bank account of women who send their children to schools under ‘Amma Vodi’ scheme. BCs were not being paid insurance when their goats and sheep perished and they lost livelihood, he said.

Mr. Reddy promised total prohobition in three phases if he gained power, when women agricultural workers apprised him in Jonnavaram in Duvvur that belt shops in the villages were ruining the families in the rural areas besides shattering them economically.

Farmers of Chapadu mandal apprised him that they suffered crop losses in 50,000 acres as water was not released to save their standing crops. They claimed that loan waiver was haphazard and accrued no benefit to them. Mr. Reddy assured to stabilise Brahmamsagar reservoir for supplying irrigation water.

Mr. Reddy asserted that the YSRCP would prepare a manifesto with three to four major problems prevailing in each Assembly constituency in the State. He hoisted party flags at Ekkupalli and Enkupalli and proceeded to Jillella, Khanagudur and Idamadaka in Duvvur mandal. On completion of seven days of padayatra in Kadapa district, Mr. Jagan crossed over to Kurnool district and made a night halt at Chagalamarri.
