A youth died in a road accident on the Steel Plant approach road in the early hours of Thursday.
Pradipta Mandal (22) left his house in Sector VII Ukkunagaram around 4.30 a.m. on his scooter. His routine was to go to Kurmannapalem and join his friends for the morning walk after parking the vehicle at a designated place. He was reportedly going at a high speed and hit a tree after losing control and died on the spot.
Some passer-by noticed him and alerted the police and telephoned his family based on the number given in his identity card.
Steel Plant Sub-Inspector T. Lakshmi conducted the inquest and the body was sent to the King George Hospital for post-mortem. Later it was handed over to his family members.
Pradipta’s father Sumant Mandal is a Deputy General Manager (R&D) in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and mother is a housewife.
They were plunged in grief as they lost their only child. Pradipta, a bright student, had completed his five-year integrated course in engineering from Andhra University.
He was selected in the campus interview by Infosys and was scheduled to leave for training in Mysore shortly.
“I am pained to know that such a promising career came to an abrupt end by the turn of fate,” said his friend.
