After receiving an overwhelming response to the month-long traffic safety campaign in July, Mother Charitable Trust plans to take another initiative named ‘Women and girls safety month-2014’ from next month.

To be organised in association with the Police Department, the campaign underlines the theme ‘aware-educate-save’. Keeping its focus on reaching out to as many girls as possible, the trust intends to visit some 25 schools and colleges.

In line with the drive, a team of counsellors, psychiatrists, experts and police officials will be visiting the educational institutions to discuss the issues relating to child abuse apart from highlighting various support systems that provide safer environment for girls.

The event includes a series of seminars followed by a free self-defence technique workshop, a signature campaign and a rally to stop child abuse.

Speaking to The Hindu , trust founder-chairman Vikas Pandey said: “The concept is to involve all stakeholders and get them on board to create a better world for children. Through our signature campaign, we want to spread the message a little louder by campaigning at busy junctions across the city and encouraging the passers-by to take a pledge against child abuse. With our drive we want to empower women to stand up against violence and lead a better life.”

Free coaching

Given the rising number of atrocities against the children, the trust hopes to make a difference by tying up with other institutions as well. For those who wish to fine-tune their self-defence techniques, Dragon Tigers Chinese Kung-Fu Academy is providing a free month-long coaching on its premises.

“Besides the hour-long free self-defence classes being provided to the participants, the coaching is extended for another month at the academy to help them hone their skills further,” said master of the academy Ch. Surya Prakash Reddy.
