Principal District Judge V. Jayasurya has extended the attachment of documents of the accused in the Yeleru land scam, which are lying with banks, by a period of one year. The orders were passed on Thursday following a petition filed by DSP of CID D.L.N. Varma seeking extension of the attachment.
When the District Judge asked why the proceedings were delayed, Special Public Prosecutor S.S.N. Raju explained there was no delay on the part of prosecution, but the case filed in 1988 had not progressed since the accused had first moved the High Court and later the Supreme Court. The Apex court ordered a fresh trial by the local court. On hearing the version, the District Judge passed orders extending the attachment of the properties worth several crores of rupees.
A Sub-Judge, bank officers, government officers, employees, and two advocates from Anakapalle were involved in the land scam in which records were manipulated by the accused in the process of payment of compensation to farmers and others.
