Special Arrangement Water gushing out after a breaching at Yeleru canal near Golugondapeta, about 80 km from Visakhapatnam following heavy inflows in the catchment area on Saturday. Drinking water is supplied to the city from the canal. Officials say it will take three to four days for repairs.

The Yeleru canal through which GVMC receives water was breached near Tandava river aqueduct at Golugondapeta on Friday evening but heavy and continuous rain hampered the repair work, Superintending Engineer V. Chandrayya informed on Saturday.

The canal was breached due to the heavy inflows it received.

Mr. Chandraiah said water supply would not be affected. Repair would be completed in three or four days once the rains stopped, he added.

Monitoring cell

A cyclone monitoring cell was established by the GVMC in view of the continuous rains the city was receiving, Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana said.

Six employees would be on duty on shifts round-the-clock and any damage or problem caused by the rains could be informed to the cyclone monitoring cell by calling toll free number 1800 425 0009.
