The concluding day of the ‘North-East and Southern Writers Meet’, organised by Sahitya Akademi, saw poets and writers talking about contemporary literary trends at Y.V.S. Murthy auditorium here on Sunday.

While Malayalam poet Radha Krishnan stressed the need to improve the quality of contemporary poetry, director of Manipuri Dance Academy and writer Joychandra Singh said the regional poetry was influenced by several factors such as political instability and climate, among others.

The writers said that contemporary poetry provide an insight into folklore, tradition, romance and the scenic beauty of the nature. Though the modern poets have been exploring new dimensions such as blog writing, the invitees emphasised on keeping the traditional component alive while writing.

The day-long event, attended by several Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu poets and writers across the country, was concluded by poetry reading followed by presentation of Manipuri martial art apart from the regional ‘Mridanga dance’.
