Complimenting the municipal corporation for beautification of walls taken up, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has suggested that historic, heritage and cultural aspects be portrayed on walls.

Accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar, he visited various parts of the city where greenery and beautification works are going on. On either side on the Railway Station road, phosphorescent paintings should be drawn, he suggested.

The Commissioner said works worth Rs. 5 crore on beautification were going on. However, some issues relating to the Navy and the Railways are yet to be sorted out.

During the visit at the airport and Vimanagar areas, National Highways Manager (Technical) P. Anusha told the Minister that permissions and funds for beautification had been sought from the Central and State offices.

Visakhapatnam North MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju participated.

As a part of readying the city for the prestigious International Fleet Review (IFR), renewal of roads has been taken up. A total of about 60-km stretch of road spending about Rs.60 crore is taken up. As a part of it, shoulders of roads are being made part of the road. Generally the shoulders are left uncovered gathering dust in them. Now the renewal covers them with toe drains to carry the rainwater.
