Woman candidates claimed top ranks in four courses, in either full-time or part-time research programmes in the Andhra University Research Common Entrance Test (AURCET) 2014, the ranks of which were released by Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju here on Thursday.
Significantly SC candidates grabbed No. 1 ranks in five full time subjects and in one part time subject, Prof. Raju pointed out.
Among the woman candidates K. Suma Nandini (food nutrition and dietetics) topped all science courses put together; A. Abhishikta (English) in arts courses for admission into full-time Ph.D. programmes while A. Aruna and G. Sudha were No. 1 in respectively among the candidates who sought admission into full-time and part-time Ph.D. programmes in law.
Tests were held in 50 different subjects both for full-time and part-time Ph.D. and M.Phil. programmes and women candidates topped in 22 tests for full-time programmes and in 12 tests of part-time programmes.
Other toppers were M. Satish Babu (chemistry) in sciences part-time; K. Harikrishna (economics) in arts part-time; S. Nagaraju (electrical engineering) in engineering full- time; B. Viswanath (electrical engineering) in engineering part-time; D. Midhun Kumar (pharmaceutical biotechnology) in pharmacy full-time and Y. Surendranath (pharmaceutical analysis and quality assurance) in pharmacy part-time.
A total of 4,237 candidates, including 2,448 for part-time programmes, appeared for the written test held on November 9 and 10.
Counselling Counselling for admission into the Ph.D. and M.Phil. programmes would be held at the office of the Directorate of Admissions of AU at Vijayanagar Palace, Peda Waltair here from December 26 to January 21, 2014.
Ranks of AURCET, total schedule of counselling, fee structure, seat distribution and admission intimation memo were placed on the AU website www.andhdrauniversity.edu.in/doa.

Along with the rank card original hall ticket was also required at the time of counselling, Director of admissions O. Aniel Kumar informed.
This year only 10 marks were allotted for interview while more stress was laid on the written test and experience of the applicant, Prof. Raju said.
The university would also provide financial assistance to the No. 1 rankers of each test, he announced.
The normal AU RCET schedule, between June and July, was delayed this year mainly due to the Samaikyandhrapradesh agitation, he said.
But from the next year the schedule would be followed, by holding entrance test in June and completing the admission process by July end, he assured.
Rector E.A. Narayana, Registrar K. Rama Mohana Rao and others were also present.
