A naval officer’s daughter was detained by the airport zone police after the CISF personnel found a bullet in her purse during scanning of her baggage at the Visakhapatnam International Airport on Sunday.

Police said Gurupreet Kaur, 22, who works in a private firm in Pune and daughter of a senior sailor posted at INS Karanja in Mumbai, arrived here on August 15 to try her luck for a better job. After her arrival, she checked into a hotel. She was detained before boarding an Indigo flight to Mumbai. Fifth Town CI Tirumala Rao told The Hindu that during the checking, a live cartridge was detected in her purse. When asked about the source of the bullet, she failed to give satisfactory explanation, following which she was handed over to the police. During interrogation, she told the police that the live cartridge was presented to her by one of her acquaintances on Friendship Day. The police booked a case under the Indian Arms Act.
