Woman attempts suicide

A 25-year-old woman allegedly attempted suicide due to harassment by her husband and in-laws here on Tuesday night.

The incident came to light after parents of the woman lodged a complaint with with the Fourth Town police on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Swati, native of Kakinada, and her condition is said to be very critical.

According to Fourth Town Inspector Tirumala Rao, Swati was married to one Sri Hari, employee in a private firm about five years ago. After an altercation with her husband, she had attempted suicide by hanging herself from a fan in her bedroom. Her family members and neighbours admitted her to a private hospital.

Police have registered a harassment case.
