The national council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has adopted a resolution asking the Central government to withdraw the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance (FRDI) Bill in public interest. Appealing to all political parties to reject the Bill, the council also decided to launch a campaign against it.

Disclosing the details of the ongoing three-day national council meeting here on Tuesday, CPI central secretariat member Shamem Faizi said that four more resolutions were adopted on second day of the conference. The council asked the government to drop all FIRs registered against journalist Rachna Khaira of Tribune who exposed the serious breach in Aadhaar data base. Condemning the Bhima-Koregaon incidents, it cautioned that threat to file cases against Jignesh Mewani and other Dalit leaders would create more anger and tensions. A resolution in support of Tamil Nadu transport workers’ strike was also passed.

Netanyahu visit

CPI national secretary and Rajya Sabha member D. Raja said that the council took a strong objection to the proposed visit of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from January. Mr. Netanyahu’s visit to India would amount to open endorsement of Israel crimes. Standing with Palestine was to stand for secularism, equality and justice. “We will stage demonstrations against his visit throughout the country,” he said.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was thrusting its Hindutva, which is fascist, communal and divisive agenda, on the country through Modi government. The constitution was being made mockery in BJP-ruled states. The people were rejecting the BJP. The invincibility of Modi and BJP has broken. The political parties, more particularly regional parties, have to rethink their stance and join secular and democratic forces, he said adding, “Our fight is against the BJP and communal forces. All said and done the Congress is pan India party and a secular party.”

To a question, Mr. Raja said the Congress has to review its soft Hidutva approach exhibited during the Gujarat elections. Referring to the Polavaram project, the CPI leader asked the Centre to take necessary steps for rehabilitation and relief measures for the Polavaram victims. CPI State assistant secretary M. Nageswara Rao was also present.
