A buzzer with a battery-based circuit not only works against overloading of buses but also avoids accidents that happen due to travelling on the footboard. This device developed by the students of Ramakrishna School has been designed to save lives as the alarm gets triggered when a passenger stays on the footboard for a while.

At another corner, those studying in Pollocks School elaborate the prospect of turning seawater into that of potable through their simple and economical project -- micro filtration.

“We wanted to make a difference in people’s lives by making potable water accessible to all sections of the society,” said Raj Kumar, Anand and, Mohan Krishna of Class X.

From technology-driven solutions to simple energy saving techniques and improving safety standards at workplace, the 10-day science fair that began as a part of the Vizag Fest – 2017 unfolds a new world where cost-effective innovative concepts take centre stage.

T. Sandhya of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Bheemunipatnam, who came along with her classmates, considers the avenue a new learning experience. “There is a wide scope for optimum utilisation of resources by sharing our expertise with other participants and understanding their working models in turn,” she opined.

Focus on health

While those from a host of engineering colleges emphasise the significance of emerging technologies and their application in diverse spheres, students of Andhra Medical College laid stress on the need to go for regular breast and cervical cancer screening, demonstrating charts to follow simple ways of leading a healthy lifestyle.

Over 100 exhibits were put up at the fair, including hydraulic bridge and light dependent resistor-based street lights. “There is more to come in the next couple of days as a few other schools are yet to join the event. The platform aids in bringing creative ideas of budding scientists to the fore and makes them understand the benefits of experiential learning,” said K. Trimurtulu Reddy, State vice-president of Jana Vignana Vedika and member of Vizag Fest committee.

The science fair, hosted by Vizag Fest organising committee, will be open till December 10 at Andhra University Engineering Grounds from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
