Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry D. Purandeswari and Rajya Sabha member T. Subbarami Reddy, strong claimants for Congress ticket for Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat, had a few embarrassing moments at a function here at the Shipyard Jetty on Thursday.

Mr. Reddy, who has formed several forums to take up public issues, has been claiming umpteen times that he would be given Lok Sabha ticket from Visakhapatnam and Ms. Purandeswari should contest from Narasaraopet in Guntur stating that her winning chances are bright there. The two VIPs separately claimed credit for the visit of Union Minister of State for Defence Jitendra Singh to Hindustan Shipyard Limited. Mr. Singh’s scheduled visit to HSL was cancelled sometime ago after aides of Ms. Purandeswari had arranged vehicles for media persons.

When Mr. Singh fixed his tour to commission an inshore patrol vessel at HSL on May 9, Ms. Purandeswari, despite her busy schedule, managed to reach here in the afternoon and participate in the commissioning ceremony. She was also seated along with Mr. Singh. Despite their rivalry, they exchanged pleasantries.

However, Mr. Reddy arrived late from Delhi and by the time he reached the venue, the commissioning ceremony was over. Later, he met Mr. Singh and exchanged pleasantries with Ms. Purandeswari.
