Anakapalle MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Tuesday said the elected representatives from the region were ready to quit their posts to put pressure on the Centre against any bid to divide the State.
Speaking at a round-table conference organised by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of students for Samaikyandhra, he said development was possible only when the State remained united and integrated. The demand for Telangana was being raised by TRS and others to pursue their self interest, he alleged.
Mr. Rao said those favouring united Andhra Pradesh were spearheading their agitation in a Gandhian way. He said people's representatives and leaders from Seemaandhra would go to Delhi on July 18 and 19 to present representations to the Congress high command and the UPA government not to concede the demand for granting Statehood to Telangana.
Political activists Harshvardhan Prasad, Satti Ramakrishna Reddy, Mantri Rajasekhar, Gandham Srinivasa Rao, and JAC convenor Adari Kishore were present.
Water crisis feared
North Andhra would face serious water crisis if the Union government carved out Telangana without completing Polavaram and Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi projects, apprehended Uttarandhra Rakshana Vedika president S.S. Shiva Sankar.
He told reporters here on Tuesday that the region had remained neglected since the formation of Orissa. When Orissa was formed in 1936, 9,000 square miles of the then Vizagapatnam was taken away by it, besides inclusion of 90 per cent of the then Ganjam district.
