Water supply to VSP to be restored

April 11, 2014 11:04 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 10:35 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The water needs of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant will be met by supplying 20 to 25 mgd, according to GVMC officials. This follows stopping the supply of water to about 7,000 acres of crop under the Pampa reservoir with the requirement being met. Water was being released from the Yeleru Left Main canal to the crop after demands at the Irrigation Development Board in East Godavari district resulting in the government issuing a memo in March to release 0.6 tmc feet of water for Rabi crop.

It was learnt that Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana visited the canal on Thursday and ordered that water supply be stopped since the agricultural operations were mostly over. The Municipal Commissioner is the Chairman of VIWSC that manages the Yeleru canal.
